About us

At our research group we study the voluntary, collective behavior of citizens and residents who organize themselves to solve various community problems. We conduct our studies from a sociological perspective and primarily through fieldwork. In each of our field studies we examine various specific issues, including: how various entities such as community groups (e.g., neighborhood associations, residents’ associations), non-profit organizations (NPOs), and administrative bodies identify the challenges faced by the community; how they find and acquire various resources and resolve disputes and collaborate with one another as they tackle their problems; and the outcomes produced by the problem-solving processes.
